Apple Keynote Event October 2010

On October 20, 2010 Apple announced multiple new ideas and products  at its keynote presentation. There announcements mainly had to do with their Mac product lines and services for their Mac products. The keynote started out with a presentation on how well the Mac has been doing lately and it seems to be doing very well, making up 1/3 of Apple's total revenue.
After that statement Steve Jobs went back up and announced its latest edition to its iLife software, iLife 11. This software has some interesting improvements such as maps for iPhoto photos and great new slide show options including a christmas theme that was quite classy. After showing us iPhoto they moved right on to iMovie which now has the ability to edit audio. Finally they presented us with their improvements to Garageband which included music lessons and much more not only for Garageband but for iPhoto and iMovie. Those three applications were the only applications that Apple showed us from this suite.

Steve Jobs wasn't shy when they finished debuting iLife to show us the next OS in their line up, Mac OS X Lion. This edition isn't much different than the popular snow leopard in which it has a dock and all the same applications are compatible. They did however add a couple new features: an App Store, a Home Screen, Replacing the dashboard application with mission control, and facetime. Yes i was not mistaken Steve Jobs emphasized his intentions of combining the popular ipad with his Mac products and ergo OS X Lion. You can buy apps like iPhoto and facetime from this app store. The home screen is quite new also and you have to bring it up. This feature is just like the home screens on your iOS devices in which you can place applications in folders and rearrange them to your liking. Mission Control is an application that is the combination of expose, spaces, and the dashboard. This helps to revolutionize the multitasking industry. Finally you have probably heard of facetime on your iphone or ipod touch by now. Well this feature is not coming to your mac, so you can video call any of your friends who have an iphone, ipod touch, or a mac with facetime on it whenever you like. Finally all of this will be released in the Summer of 2011.
Finally to conclude the hour and half keynote Steve introduced us to the latest MacBook Air. This is a truly magnificent device that makes me question how is this possible. At the front of this device it is 0.11 inches thick and at the back it is 0.76 inches thick. Not even an inch thick, how do you do this? Well Apple has taken away the hard drive and added flash memory, the type of memory found in all iOS devices. This speeds up the restart time of the device and also raises battery life. This device's battery can last up to 7 hours connected to wifi and 30 days standby time. This product is on sale for the cheapest model at $999, a great price for such a magnificent product.
